Your IMEI is a 15-digit ID unique to every phone. The first 8 digits are the TAC (Type Allocation Code), which identify the make and model; the rest identify the individual device plus a checksum. To check whether a phone is PTA approved, SMS the IMEI to 8484, or look it up on the official PTA DIRBS portal at dirbs.pta.gov.pk. A compliant result means it works on Pakistani networks long-term; non-compliant means it can be blocked unless registered.

What is a TAC number?
The TAC (Type Allocation Code) is the first 8 digits of the IMEI. It identifies the make and model of a phone — for example, all units of the same iPhone model share the same TAC. The remaining digits identify the individual device and a checksum.
What does non-PTA mean?
A non-PTA (non-compliant or customs-unlocked) phone is not registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. It is cheaper but can be network-blocked after a grace period unless registered and the applicable duty is paid. Always check PTA status before buying.
